ThistleWork Design, since its beginning in Boston during the early 1990's, has provided custom wedding invitation & cypher (monogram) design and envelope addressing to brides and grooms looking for a unique image. Other services include: original celtic knotwork design; gilding (gold leaf); birth and memorial plaques; custom greeting cards and certificates for any occasion; decorative painting on musical instruments, wooden furniture, frames and mats; and hand-painted lettering on fabric (flags/banners).
Owner-artist, Diane McDougall-Desautelle, graduated from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston - where she studied technical painting - learning the traditional gilding and egg tempera techniques of the old masters, along with oil painting, watercolor, printmaking, silkscreen, bookbinding, graphic design, photography, woodworking, metal smithing, ceramics and art history. She received her Diploma from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in 1991 along with her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Tufts University where she continued studies and earned her Master of Arts in Teaching in 1993.
She is a member of Masscribes, Inc. - New England Calligrapher's Organization, IAMPETH (The International Association of Master Penmen, Engrossers and Teachers of Handwriting), The Framingham Artists' Guild, and is currently developing classes for youths, to teach calligraphy and the history of handwriting, and to instill in children an appreciation for penmanship and the use of letterforms as a venue for creative expression.
